Permanent make-up is a gentle process of implanting colour into the upper layer of the skin - the epidermis. Permanent make-up (PMU) is also known as semi-permanent make-up (SMPU), micropigmentation, dermapigmentation and cosmetic tattooing, and is a viable alternative to traditional cosmetics.
This revolutionary beauty treatment is used to define eyebrows, eyes and lips. It will give you a subtle natural finish, creating long lasting looks to enhance your natural beauty.
What is the difference between permanent make-up & traditional tattooing?
There are a number of technical differences between traditional tattooing & permanent make-up. With PMU, pigment is implanted into the upper layer of the skin - the epidermis. This is the layer of skin that you can see and it is constantly shedding and renewing itself. Because of the process of cell turnover, the permanent make-up pigments will fade over time.
With traditional tattooing, the inks are deposited into a deeper layer of the skin - the dermis. Because the dermal cells are much more stable than the epidermal cells, the tattoo inks will stay in place, with only minor fading, for a person's entire life.
Unlike tattoos, permanent make-up requires specialised knowledge of facial structure, colour theory, and the ability to match skin tone. Also, the purpose of permanent make-up is to beautify the person in a way that looks natural, rather than adorn with a tattoo design that is very visible.
What is microblading?
Microblading is a form of permanent make-up where a handtool is used instead of a machine - most often used to create beautiful, crisp hairstroke brows.
How long will the make-up last?
Permanent make-up can last for many years but this is individual to each person and is dependent on several factors including skin type, age, sun exposure and lifestyle. We recommend a colour refresher treatment every 1 to 3 years to maintain perfect results. NOTE: Discounts are given off the full treatment price.
Does it hurt?
Every client is different but all the procedures are performed with your comfort in mind. We normally use a topical anaesthetic gel prior to treatment to minimise discomfort, so most people will feel nothing at all, while a few feel a slight, prickly sensation. However, any minimal discomfort that a client may experience is definitely outweighed by the stunning results that will be achieved.
Who benefits most from permanent make-up?
Everyone who wants to look the best they can as naturally as possible. Think how convenient it would be to have perfectly shaped eyebrows, pretty eyes and beautifully contoured lips, without the effort of time-consuming day in – day out make-up rituals. All subtle, soft and perfectly in place with no smudging, no mess, no problems.
Permanent make-up can do what no ordinary makeover can achieve - it guarantees you perfect make-up, day or night. It makes the very best of your features by correcting, balancing and harmonising and, for older women, it really can put the clock back.
Whatever your age, permanent make-up gives you a special kind of confidence, knowing you look your best 24 hours a day.
Am I suitable for permanent make-up?
Most people are suitable for some form of permanent make-up. We will explore with you precisely which treatments will bring out the best in you. We do this via a one-to-one consultation which includes a discussion of your wishes, expectations and any features you wish to correct or balance. From this discussion, Karen will be able to recommend the specific treatments she believes will achieve the effect you want.
Do I have a choice on placement & colour?
Absolutely. You will be in control every step of the way from desired shape to colour selection.
How long will it take?
You should allow about 2 hours for each new procedure.
Do you do home visits?
It may be possible to do a home visit for a small extra charge. We are based on the Isle of Wight & have a monthly clinic in Chichester. We will normally travel up to 25 miles for home visits, covering most of Sussex, Surrey & Hampshire. Just contact us so we can make the best arrangements for you.
What do your permanent make-up prices include?
Permanent make-up is a two-step process. All our prices include the initial consultation, your first procedure and the 4-6-week touch-up (both with aftercare packs). Occasionally, more touch-ups may be needed to adjust the colour but, provided you have followed our aftercare instructions properly - ie. no picking, used proper sunscreen etc., additional touch-ups will be given at no extra cost to you to ensure we achieve a perfect result.
Permanent make-up will fade over time. Factors that affect fading are sun exposure, skin undertone, clients age, and frequency of using chemical peels. We offer discounts off the full price for yearly colour refreshers. This means you can maintain your permanent without breaking the bank!
Is permanent make-up safe?
We only use one-time, disposable blades, needles, gloves etc. to ensure hygiene is optimised and risk of infection is minimised. All of our pigments are made of natural minerals specifically selected for their safe, non-toxic and hypo-allergenic properties. They are trusted by technicians and cosmetic surgeons throughout the world &, in fact, Ophthalmologists actually recommend permanent make-up eye procedures for women sensitive to conventional cosmetics.
How are the procedures carried out?
During your initial consultation, we will discuss your requirements & also ensure your suitability for the procedure. You will be required to complete a medical form & we will administer a simple skin patch test to check you are not allergic to the pigments & anaesthetic. It is possible to do the consultation over the phone & we can send you the patch test & instructions via post, if required. This will save you a trip, which is useful if you are having to travel a long distance.
When you are happy to go ahead, we ask for a £50 deposit to secure your booking. This can be in cash, cheque or online bank transfer. Debit & credit cards are also accepted.
During your first visit, we will discuss, in detail, your desired colour & shape - eg. we will draw on your new eyebrows & lips, to give you an indication of the final result. You will sign a treatment consent form & then we can start!
Once the initial procedure is finished, you will be given a free Aftercare Pack, with comprehensive instructions to help you care for your new PMU procedure. You will also be given a healing schedule, so you can be confident about what to expect in the days and weeks ahead.
The balance of the treatment cost is usually paid on the day of your first procedure.
The procedures are always done in 2 or more stages and we would usually space the sessions about 4-6 weeks apart. This gives time for the pigments in the skin to mature and the true colour to appear.
During the touch-up session, we check the colour and top-up and correct any missing areas, if necessary. Sometimes, the second session can take the same length of time as the first butthere is no extra charge for this.
If any additional touch-up sessions are required, & provided you have followed our aftercare instructions properly - ie. no picking, used proper sunscreen etc., these will be given at no extra cost to you to ensure we achieve a perfect result.
We have a 100% SATISFACTION-GUARANTEED policy. We will continue to work with you until you have the result you are completely happy with.
What happens after the procedure?
Immediately post procedure, the treated area may appear slightly swollen and the colour will appear darker and more intense - again this depends on skin type. This stage will last for several days. Complete healing can take up to 6 weeks for the pigment in the skin to mature and the true colour to appear.
You will be given a FREE Aftercare Pack to promote speedy recovery after your treatment, with items carefully selected to compliment your new or existing permanent make-up procedure.
The items in the pack are:
Vitamin A & D Healing Cream - This will assist with the healing process after your permanent make-up procedure.
Aftercare Applicators - Q-tips, cotton pads & cubies depending on your treatment.
Aftercare Guidance Notes- Your post-procedure home care is extremely important to Carefree Beauty and we pride ourselves on providing reassurance and aftercare guidance, to alleviate any fears and concerns, and promote recovery.
Healing Schedule - Each procedure is slightly different & you will be given guidance on what to expect during the recovery process.
How do I pay for my treatment?
We accept payment by cash, cheque or bank transfer. Also, all major credit cards are accepted. Payment is usually in full on the day of your first treatment. However, please contact us if you wish to split the payments.
